This rugged mountainous region on the western seaboard of the north-west Highlands of Scotland is a sparsely populated area used for sporting activities (deer stalking, fishing) as well as forestry and the farming of fish and hill sheep. The, as yet, unspoilt mountain scenery attracts many visitors and a better understanding of the underlying geology may help towards a fuller appreciation of this national asset and its careful conservation. This memoir brings together the data, research and interpretations of the many geologists who have studied the region along with maps, diagrams and tables to provide a geological account of the Kintail district.
