A humorous autobiographical book set in 1890's New York. Clarence Day Jr. 's comic tales of his father, Clarence 'Clare' Day Senior, portray a rambunctious, short-fused Wall Street broker who demands that everything from his family (and other menials) should be just so. When it isn't, all hell breaks loose. Clare is intolerant and tyrannical in his constant battle to harness the world to his way of thinking. The more he rails against his staff, his cook, his wife, his horse, salesmen, holidays, his children and the inability of the world to live up to his impossible standards, the more comical and lovable he becomes to his own family who love him despite it all. -- from the publisher.
