This book is an historical account of nuclear weapons development & testing, in which this 12-chapter book spans chronologically the history from early pre-Manhattan days to the present. A large book, it contains 400 figures, of which 100 pictures are in color. About 2,000 names occur in personnel indices. Each chapter is written at five levels of nuclear weapons activities: world events; politics in Washington, D. C. ; developments at Los Alamos & Livermore; test operations in Nevada & the Pacific; &, where appropriate, participation of the author. During his forty-year career in nuclear weapons & testing, he watched more than 65 atmospheric detonations, many in the multi-megaton range. He also participated in the 1956 British nuclear weapons tests in Australia. LORD PENNEY - former Director of British nuclear weapons programs - "I found the book extremely interesting because it is by a technical man who knows the technical side & sees all the other sides (national politics, international politics, security, etc. ). There is a great deal in the book that is not to be found anywhere else, & it will therefore be a source of information & of reference for a long time.
