Arabel had woken up in a hospital in Spain to find that she had completely lost her memory. She had, however, been firmly taken in hand by a mysterious, imposing stranger, don Cortez Ildefonso de la Dura, and she knew nothing about herself except what he chose to tell her – and Don Cortez told her she was his wife! And he made it plain that he intended she should be a real wife. How could she be sure he was telling the truth? Especially as, at the back of her mind, was a flickering memory that there had been another man whom she had really loved. She must get away from Don Cortez – but how?
