Reporter Bob Newman finds his girlfriend Sandy Riverton hanging from a desolate belltower on the East Anglian coast. Sandy's estranged husband Ed, a top executive in INCUBUS (the world's largest bank), has been murdered in Helsinki on the very same night. Tweed has to find out exactly what INCUBUS is up to and what part Evelyn Lennox, sister of Sandy, and the devious Peggy Vanderheld have to play. The only problem is that the witnesses sought by Tweed keep being eliminated one by one.
