Lindsay had been away from her Scottish home, working in Canada, for three years now, but an unhappy love affair plus concern over her widowed mother had decided her to go back for a time. The local Council wanted to pull down her house to make way for a new road — and Mrs. Bell was being uncooperative, to say the least! However, it didn’t take Lindsay long to talk her mother round — but meanwhile she had met the formidable Scott Nicolson, the man in charge of the road scheme, and soon had plenty of problems of her own to sort out. The initial antagonism she had felt towards him over what she considered his callousness towards her mother soon faded into a rather warmer feeling. The old love was forgotten in the new — which, unfortunately, looked liked being no more successful, as it became increasingly obvious to Lindsay that all Scott’s interest was centered on another girl.
