This is the story of sightings and incidents while wild camping in the African bush in the Southern Tanzanian Parks of Selous Ruaha and Mikumi . These less well visited parks presented challenges - tracks were often poorly maintained, there were long distances to travel, and in the searing heat of the south fresh food supplies quickly perished. However camps could be set up right on the shores of fish-filled lakes which attracted a multitude of birds, from Fish Eagles to the tiny Malachite Kingfisher. The waters were also alive with Hippos and Crocodiles meaning the campers had to keep a wary eye on the shore as well as monitoring the bush for danger from the likes of Lion, Elephant and Buffalo. These Southern Tanzania Parks provided a very different experience from those of more frequently visited North of the country.
