Unfortunately, no one seems to remember what they are. ” Actually, Rule One is that there are no rules. But there are principles. There are observable, definable qualities common to effective songs of all kinds. Song styles come and go, but, sacred or secular, in any genre or generation, the underlying principles that make a song work (or not work) remain the same.
