This volume is the publication of the proceedings of the fifth symposium organized by the Advisory Committee on Nutrition and Crop Husbandry of The Rank Prize Funds. This symposium brought together a wide group of human and animal nutritionists, plant breeders, marine biologists, meteorologists, physiologists, biochemists, plant pathologists, soil scientists and agricultural economists from 13 countries.
